Why One Light Charcoal?

Reduces Smog & Greenhouse Gases

The EPA estimates that 14,500 tons of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are released annually in the US from charcoal lighter fluid, a petroleum distillate. VOCs contribute to the formation of ozone, a component of smog and the third most important greenhouse gas. The environmental impact from lighter fluid is equivalent to the hydrocarbon emissions from 375,000 passenger cars!

Due to the health problems associated with groundlevel ozone, several local authorities are advising consumers against the use of lighter fluid. Kansas City has been giving residents free metal chimney starters in exchange for their charcoal lighter fluid, in an effort to reduce pollution.
